Some of the STEM-discipline competitions that are accessible to local schools and students are listed below.

Perennial math competition

  • What is it? Perennial Math was created by Dr. Sylvia Dean, a gifted specialist and administrator for 26 years in Huntsville, Alabama...  to offer students more venues to showcase their talents and to help teachers develop math skills in their classroom.
  • Who can participate: Students in grades 3-8
  • Location: online
  • Date: multiple days throughout the year

Alabama Robotics Competition

  • What is it? The Alabama Robotics Competition is an event where students write programs that navigate their robot across a series of obstacle courses.
  • Who can participate: Open to all grades in K-12
  • Location: The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487
  • Date: TBA

Science Olympiad

  • What is it? Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of a series of 23 team events in each division (Division B is middle school; Division C is high school)...By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation. Through Science Olympiad, students, teachers, parents, principals and business leaders bond together and work toward a shared goal.

Math Olympiad

  • What is it? Math Problem solving contests for teams of up to 35 students in grades 4 through 8.
    It is open only to schools, home schools, and institutes (NOT INDIVIDUALS)...Created in 1977 by Dr. George Lenchner, an internationally known math educator, the Math Olympiads went public in 1979. Last year nearly 170,000 students from 6,000 teams worldwide participated in the Olympiads. All 50 states and about 30 other countries were represented.
